The Israeli National Organization CIGRE was established in 1997, with the support of the Israel Electric Corporation and the participation of additional private companies. The initial declaration stated that the organization's purpose is to disseminate knowledge to all who seek it in Israel in the fields of high-voltage electricity and to create a forum for experts, students, equipment manufacturers, and academics where direct contact is established with foreign experts in various fields of activity. The National Organization operates as a branch of CIGRE, which is an international organization that has existed since 1921 and is headquartered in Paris. The international organization encompasses over 80 countries and 810 factories and institutions.
The unique characteristic of the organization, as determined by its founders, is that it embraces electric companies, manufacturers of electrical equipment for high and ultra-high voltage energy systems, and higher education institutions. In recent years, the organization's activities have expanded to include distribution networks, in addition to high and ultra-high voltage networks and the electricity generation segment.
Israel's participation in CIGRE's work helps in receiving up-to-date information in the technical field related to electrical equipment and systems at all voltage levels, contributing to the establishment of industries operating according to advanced technologies.
Members of the national organization have a real opportunity for meetings with colleagues from around the world, leading to the establishment of joint ventures in both professional and commercial fields. Professional activities are concentrated in 16 Study Committees (SC) and approximately 200 Working Groups (WG), according to the subjects dealt with by the study committees.
You are invited to visit the organization's website: www.cigre.org. This year we are launching the Israeli website en.cigre.org.il which will enable better, faster, and more efficient communication between colleagues in Israel. Anyone who sees themselves as suitable and interested in professional activity in one of the committees published on the CIGRE website should register with the Israeli National Organization by writing to the address listed below, attaching a CV stating their professional experience relevant to the field in which they wish to be active (publications, reports, knowledge of English/French languages, etc.).
If you know other professionals in your environment who you think are worthy and interested in registering with the organization, please provide them with the necessary details. Membership in study committees requires payment of membership fees to the Israeli National Organization, as detailed in the attached "Membership Fees 2014" page. The Technical Committee of the Israeli National Organization will examine your candidacy, and the organization will be happy to include you in CIGRE's professional activities.

A strong community doesn't always create change,
but it can provide the power to make it happen.
